Tire Chains

Not everyone needs tire chains, especially if you don’t live in a location that sees a lot of snow. However, if you do live in a location that sees a lot of snow, you will definitely want to consider getting tire chains for your car. This is especially important for those who don’t drive a car that’s known for its ability to get through snow. Not everyone has a truck or an SUV that can make it through a couple of feet of snow, and even those with trucks and SUVs may not have the right equipment to make it through a serious snowstorm. If you live in a location that sees a good deal of snow, you should consider having tire chains in your car. As previously mentioned, this is especially important for drivers of vehicles that do not have a significant advantage when it comes to winter weather; however, drivers of trucks and SUVs may also want to consider getting a set of tire chains.

Phone Charger

Need to make an emergency call on the road? Just stop by one of the call boxes, right? Well, not necessarily. Unfortunately, call boxes are a thing of the past now that we live in a hyper-connected society with not only cellphones, but smartphones in our pockets at all times. Because of this, many call boxes are defunct, if not completely removed from the sides of highways. Since we live in a society where people are more suspicious of strangers, most people aren’t willing to pull over and help someone on the side of the road. When you need to make an emergency call on the road, it’s probably going to be on you to make that call. For this reason, it’s important to have a designated car phone charger that never leaves the car. Keep this in your car at all times. You never know when your battery will be about to die and you’ll need to make a call.

Shovel and Salt

Every car should have a first aid kit. If you have a first aid kit in your car, you may have forgotten that you even have it since it sees such little use. However, that doesn’t mean that you don’t need it. Different situations will require different first aid kits. For example, you probably don’t need a first aid kit for your car that contains all the same stuff as the first aid kit you have for your boat. Research all the items you’ll need for your first aid kit. There are many reputable sources that have info on what you’ll need in the first aid kit for your car. If you have medical conditions, special needs, or other extenuating circumstances, you may need additional items in your first aid kit. For example, if you are diabetic, you may need to add glucose tablets to your first aid kit. If you have a baby, you may need to add additional items specifically for the baby.

Ice Scrapers

You should have ice scrapers in your car if you live in a location where your windshield could reasonably become frosted over and need a good scraping before you hit the road. You may not live in a place that sees five inches of snow in a single hour, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t need an ice scraper. Even places that see minimal snow still see freezing rain and other weather conditions that may mean an ice scraper is necessary. A lot of people find that they don’t have the time (or ice scraper!) to remove the ice from their car’s windshield. If you find yourself in this situation, do not drive without completely clearing off your windows! Driving with reduced visibility is extremely dangerous, especially when you’re just pulling out of your neighborhood in the morning while children are walking to school. Never drive without completely clearing off your windows.

Winter Weather Gear

You may wish to have winter weather gear in your vehicle as well as the winter weather gear on your back. What exactly you have in your car will depend on where you live. In some situations, you may consider putting a pair of snow pants in your trunk during the winter. This would be most necessary if you lived in a rural area that saw a lot of snow. Those living in areas with freezing rain may wish to have water-resistant jackets that are rated for very low temperatures. If you’re living outside of a tropical paradise or Arizona, you’ll probably want to consider having a scarf, hat, and water-resistant gloves in your car. Make sure there’s a pair for every person, and having an extra set may not be a bad idea.
