Don’t Leave Your Baby in the Car

It doesn’t matter how long you’re planning on being in the store, or if you only need one thing, or if you’ve finally just gotten the baby to sleep after a fussy day: do not leave them in the car while you go into the store. You don’t have to live in Arizona to bake cookies on your dashboard; plenty of cars across the continental United States get hot enough to bake a cookie. Temperatures can reach over 120 degrees F in the summer, which is hot enough to kill a baby in a matter of ten to fifteen minutes. If you need to go in a store, take your baby with you. If you cannot take your baby with you, find a babysitter while you run errands.

Keep Them Hydrated

Generally speaking, it’s difficult to sue police officers for injuries you’ve sustained while they were using physical force to restrain you, especially if you genuinely needed to be restrained in the first place. Filing a lawsuit against governmental officials for matters that occurred while they were on-the-clock is typically an uphill battle due to sovereign immunity. The simplest explanation is that the police officers wouldn’t be able to do their jobs efficiently with the fear of a lawsuit looming over them at all times. Therefore, governmental officials—such as police officers—are given immunity from lawsuits. This immunity isn’t unlimited, however. For example, if an officer violates one of your clearly established rights, and you are injured as a result of that, you may still have a claim. However, it should be noted that even these claims are unusual as an officer’s behavior would have to be rather extreme.

Monitor Outdoor Activities

If your children are playing outside, they should have someone checking in on them every now and then, even if they’re just playing in the fenced in backyard. Children may not necessarily know or understand that they’re getting overheated. A child may lie down for a nap, only to suffer a heat stroke after falling unconscious. Furthermore, children may not be able to recognize when other children they’re playing with need medical attention. If you are hosting a play date, or watching your children play outside, make sure they have plenty of water. It may also be a good idea to have them come inside for breaks and to reapply sunscreen.

Consider the Temperature of the Pram

Sometimes police arrest someone when they do not have probable cause to arrest a person, and sometimes there is probable cause, but the prosecutor decides there’s not enough evidence to file charges. While nobody wants to spend a few hours in jail, you cannot resist arrest just because you don’t believe the officer shouldn’t have arrested you in the first place. In most cases, there isn’t much recourse for situations where there wasn’t enough evidence to file charges against you. In some cases of wrongful arrest, a civil rights attorney may be able to help you. However, a personal injury attorney may not be able to provide help unless you were physically injured as a result of your wrongful arrest.

Use Sunscreen

It is crucial that your children understand that this divorce is final. If you are not sure whether or not your decision to divorce is final, do not tell your children about it. Your children should never know that you’re thinking about divorce. It adds unnecessary strain on the child, especially if they’re very young. Unfortunately, many children believe that they are the reason that their parents got divorced. Make sure that your children know that they did nothing to contribute to the divorce and that both parents still love the child very much.
