Car Accident Season Is Coming. Is Your Car Ready?

ELI5: Negligence

It’s lovely weather for a car ride together—but not for long. Car accident season is coming, and with that there will be a lot of very busy personal injury attorneys this season. While our five star reviews will tell you that Moxie Law Group can make a car accident claim a breeze, those who have sustained injury in a car accident will probably also mention that they wish the car accident never happened in the first place. If you’re going to be driving in a winter wonderland, you ought to make sure that your ride is ready for the weather.

New Tires

If you don’t want to be speaking with a car accident attorney this season, you may want to look into getting new tires, or putting your snow tires on your vehicle. Those who have tires that are worn down take a lot longer to come to a complete stop. This can be a problem in a snowstorm when the roads are wet and/or slippery. While it will help to slow down when the roads are in poor condition, there’s no substitute for having a good set of tires on your car. Because of changes in the temperature, your tire pressure signal may come on even if your tires aren’t actually leaking. However, this isn’t a free pass to ignore your tire pressure gauge. When the snow starts falling, you want to be prepared for it.

Windshield Wipers

Windshield wipers are a lot like tires: while you might not need the latest and greatest and most expensive windshield wipers, having some that are nice, and in good condition, will take you a long way. If your windshield wipers can’t even get you through a mild rain storm, it may be time to consider changing them. Also, if your windshield wiper comes off for any reason, it ought to be replaced immediately. Not having windshield wipers can make it difficult to see since you would not be able to wipe away anything obstructing your vision. Furthermore, depending on what’s happened to your windshield wipers, you may end up damaging your windshield if your wiper blades need to be replaced.

Vehicle Lights

You may need to replace your headlights, taillights, and brake lights. Since the days are getting shorter, more people are driving home in the dark. If your car doesn’t have all the necessary lights that it needs, you could cause a serious accident. Not only does a lack of headlights mean that you can’t adequately see what’s around you, it also means that other drivers probably can’t see you. Having brake lights that don’t work can also be a problem as the driver behind  you may not realize that you’re coming to a stop. This could cause a rear-end collision. In the winter, many drivers may need extra time to come to a complete stop. Having working brake lights can help them realize that you’re coming to a stop the moment you step on the brake.

Emergency Kit

Your car should have an emergency kit. Not only should you have first aid items such as bandages and gauze, but you should also have jumper cables, reflective gear, blankets, and a shovel if you live somewhere with a lot of snow. Depending on the weather conditions of your location, having chains for your tires may also be prudent. It’s also not a bad idea to have non-perishable food items and water with you. Not too long ago, many people were stranded on a road when the state decided to shut down a major road. This led many people to go without food and water for days.

When the Weather Outside Is Too Frightful

If the weather outside is too frightful, it may be a good idea to stay home. After COVID-19 many people have adapted to working from home. If you have concerns about whether or not you’ll be able to commute to work safely, it may be a good idea to work from home. When winter weather warnings are in effect, it generally means that there’s a big storm that’s likely to come. This is different from a winter weather advisory, which usually means that there’s a storm that could happen At Moxie Law Group, we’re dedicated to creating educational resources to promote safety and prevent injury. However, we know that injury can’t always be prevented. If you’ve sustained injury, and you need a personal injury attorney to fight for your rights, contact Moxie Law Group today for a free consultation.
